21st Century Curriculum Initiatives

Take note of the 2009 NJCCCs and see the emphasis on "engaging students, fostering achievement, and cultivating 21st Century Global Skills". Also note the emphasis on cross curricular studies such as health literacy and financial literacy. I challenge you to review the 21st Century Curriculum and offer some thoughts on how you can incorporate those skills and themes into your classroom. Departmental isolation of academic disciplines is being discouraged while collaboration and applying content to real life situations is encouraged.

Post some ideas!

  1. Some thoughts on interdisciplinary projects that may incorporate collaboration, research skills, and technology: student created webquest scavenger hunts, possible to include several subjects, class vs class, and even award best group effort. Another project idea- "History Mystery" secret topics to research, then post e-mails for other groups to ask questions, get replies, then make educated guesses on topic or person. Again first accurate guess could be rewarded. Or- student created "Talking ToonBook" using toondoo and voice threads programs, with set up from computer dept. Students create online mini-books and narrate with their on voice. Crosscurricular, financial and health strands could be easily added. Would most definately need planning time and help of computer dept for all. I would love to work with any and all on these, or any other projects! Cindy Juniewicz
