From Dr. Stevenson

We finally have received the "Project Based Learning Handbooks" from the Buck Institute. They are an excellent guide for Project Based Learning. Starting on Tues. Dec. 15th, you can check them out in the JHS Media Center. The Handbook includes a lot of practical samples, forms, ideas and really outlines the process of PBL very well. Feel free to review and recommend to other staff members who may benefit. Hope all is going well!

Spelling!

Oops spelled persistence wrong!

Struggle Creates Success

Robin,

Testing is easier and does not require true application and application of knowledge presents a greater challenge. Keep perisiting for over time the resistance will subside. Remember we must struggle to become better, for their are no shortcuts!
Thanks Cindy...I appreciate the support alot! For the newsletter, I will just quote what you said and have your email and room # attached...kind of like a little advertisement...

Mutiny Ahead

Hey Robin, hang in there, once they get used to the idea I'm sure they will embrace it. I wish any of my music teachers would have assigned a project like that, I would love to hear what they come up with.
On a different note, for your newsletter, I am offering my time to any staff member who would like to discuss UbD essential questions for their curriculum. Short, non-threatening sessions that will basically be brainstorming time, targeting 10-15 minutes for those that may be confused and/or intimidated by the program.
Thanks for coming up with such great ideas for the students and the faculty!
An interesting thing happened yesterday in my Music Theory and Appreciation class. I introduced their end of semester project, which is to write lyrics, and compose a melody and add a simple accompaniment. Well, it was practically a mutiny. They just want a test...they don't want the project. I realize now, that I could have introduced the project better, but I was very surprised at the response from the majority of the class...anyone else have this experience?

Great Session Yesterday

I thought the presentation on Open-Ended Questions yesterday afternoon by Jill Maxwell, Bob Flanagan, Jim Ardoin, and Lori Errico was fantastic. It's great to see and hear about the fabulous ideas our peers have. Nice Job Everyone !

newsletter

I was thinking that the newsletter could be a bi-monthly newsletter to the staff and community. Purely meant to be an online only publication. Please give me some feed back on this.

Thanks

Newsletter

Just to keep you updated, I am hoping to have a draft newsletter before we go to December break, maybe a published (online) one for January. I will need input from the committee about articles or info. This newsletter can probably just stay to one page..but certainly however it develops. I am setting up the format, but need content from all of the committee...

Lets say for December 4th for newsletter ideas/articles.

Thanks

I wasn't there, but have an idea for a personal plan of action! Cindy J.
Greetings fellow bloggers... Just checking in to see if any of you have posted a blog and it looks like no one has. OK I am posing a question for all of you... Have you started your "action" yet? If not let us know when you have.

Just wondering how the UBD training went on Thursday as I was unable to attend.
Any feedback?
